Junior teams from the BG Göttingen have registered for the Summer League

The 2020/21 match in the youth basketball Bundesliga (NBBL / U19) and youth basketball Bundesliga (JBBL / U16) ended a few weeks ago. Due to the increasing incidence values, an easing of the situation was not in sight, says Uwe Albersmeyer, managing director of NBBL gGmbH, about this decision. This was also taken “in order to create clarity for everyone involved in the NBBL and JBBL game operations”.

This also means that no German champions will be played in the two youth leagues in 2021. All NBBL and JBBL teams have the right to start for the 2021/22 season, which means that relegation will be suspended. “New applicants get qualification opportunities, should clubs not want to exercise their starting right,” emphasizes league manager Sören Greßmann.

One attempt to finally offer competitive basketball again is the first-time offer of a “Summer League”, which is planned for the period from June 1st to August 31st. All teams willing to play should be given the opportunity to re-enter competitive sport with the possibility of reporting in the forms of play 5-5 and 3 × 3. “The game mode is kept regional and flexible, so that the effort for the clubs in terms of organization and travel should be kept within limits,” explains Greßmann.

The demand for the starting places was great, as the league was able to determine after the end of the registration period: a total of 52 teams in the NBBL and 72 teams in the JBBL have expressed their interest in the various forms of play. “That shows us that we are on the right track with our offer. After the long compulsory break, there is a huge need for games to run under competitive conditions, ”explains Greßmann.

The two junior teams Sartorius Juniors and Sartorius Youngsters of the BG Göttingen have also submitted their registration documents and given possible game dates before the summer holidays. As youth coach Andreas Scheede reported, no information has yet been received about what the mode looks like and when it will be played. The offspring of the violets are also eager to get back on the field.

Specifically, 35 teams have registered in the NBBL for the “5-5” form, 17 for the “3 × 3” competition. In the U16 age group (JBBL), 47 reports were received for “5-5” and 25 for “3 × 3”. Now the planning for an orderly game operation in regional groups has begun.
