Álvaro Valera and Jordi Morales secured one more medal, at least a bronze, on Tuesday for the Spanish delegation present at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo by reaching the semifinals of the class 6-7 team competition.

The Sevillian and Catalan, current European champions, were the only survivors of the day and their clear 2-0 victory over Egypt gave them a place in the semi-finals. Table tennis distributes two bronzes by teams, so both, silver in London 2012, secured a new Paralympic medal.

Valera and Morales did not have excessive problems to get rid of the Egyptians Ibrahim Elhusseiny Hamadtou and Sayed Mohammed Youssef, whom they already overwhelmed in the double (11-6, 11-5, 11-7) to achieve the first point.

Then, the Catalan did not give Hamatdou (11-1, 11-1, 11-3) options to seal the ticket for the semifinals on Wednesday against the British William Bailey, individual runner-up in class 7, and Paul Karabardak, bronze of class 6.

On the other hand, José Manuel Ruiz and Juan Bautista Pérez could not defend the silver of five years ago after losing in their first match of the competition 9-10 2-0 against Great Britain, while they also lost 2-0 in the class 1-2 Miguel Ángel Toledo and Iker Sastre against South Korea.
