“It didn’t make sense for me to stay at the Lakers”

Very active in the direction of arrivals, the Lakers have also been in terms of departures this offseason. Among other things, a recruit from last year was not kept by LA, or rather… would not have liked to come back on site according to her own words, since she could no longer see himself evolving there!

A year ago, questions flourished as to the Lakers’ choices not to keep some of their players following the title. At the time, the departures of Rajon Rondo, Danny Green, JaVale McGee or Dwight Howard raised questions, they who had had a big role to play in the coronation of the franchise. A year later, the same phenomenon of exodus can be observed, but is not followed by the same reaction.

Indeed, most of the players sacrificed this summer by the angelino front office, are after a lackluster season, both individually and collectively. Andre Drummond notably falls into this category, and had to find a way out following the opening of the free agency. In his induction conference, the new 76ers pivot, however, said the decision was his.

Journalist : There have been echoes and reports that the Lakers wanted to keep you …

Andre Drummond: Yeah, times changed, and they made different trades and different changes in their team, so much so that it didn’t make sense for me to stay there. So I just took the best opportunity after that, and it was to come to Philly. I think it’s a good fit for me.

It is true that one of the first deals made by LA was clearly not in Drummond’s favor. In his post, the franchise has indeed quickly repatriated… Dwight Howard to the City of Angels. From then on, the future of the Big Penguin clearly seemed to be written elsewhere. He will therefore be able to try to bounce back in Philadelphia, the team where Howard spent last season.

In Pennsylvania, it is in the shadow of Joel Embiid that he will necessarily have to speak. The cohabitation between the two big men, who have long nourished beef on and off the pitch in recent years will be one to watch carefully. The former Pistons star will have anyway the opportunity to prove to the front office Purple & Gold, that he would have done better to keep it.

Called or not to continue his path to the Lakers, Andre Drummond has decided to write a new page in his history far from the mythical franchise. The future will tell if this choice was indeed justified.
