Is Toyota working on a hybrid diesel engine? Here is the rumor

Since electrification has taken over the automotive world, the variety of power systems has grown even further. Until recently the engines were only petrol and diesel, perhaps supported by LPG or methane tanks.

But now it is on the market a wide range of electrical units ranging from small engines from a few kW to powertrains capable of unloading more than 1,000 horsepower on the asphalt. We are not talking about the solutions that provide for the storage of electricity through hydrogen fuel cells (FCV).

From this point of view, it would probably be legitimate to award the gold medal to Toyota, which has never missed anything between petrol, diesel, hydrogen, mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric cars. Now, however, the rumors add further eclecticism to the offer of the Japanese brand: a report shared by Best Car Web let us know that we could attend the marketing of a hybrid diesel model.

Unfortunately, at the moment we do not have certain details on the merits of the matter, but the possible presentation of a diesel-electric 4×4 Land Cruiser would not surprise us at all. In practice it would be almost unique for the current market since, with the exception of some recent experiments, the car manufacturers have never really gone through with this type of technology.

Either way the idea wouldn’t be bad at all if we had to consider it the torque and efficiency characteristics, especially applied to off-road models such as the aforementioned Land Cruiser or the large Tundra pickup present in the United States.

Before closing we want to show you another Toyota vehicle that is certainly peculiar. We are talking about a modified variant of the Accessible People Mover (APM) that the brand has developed specifically for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics: here is the transport vehicle for baseball players. Recall that Toyota is an official partner of the Tokyo Olympics (despite the chaos of recent days), and has also demonstrated it with the futuristic LQ.
