In the Women’s Doubles Final Stand, Rionny Mainaky: Apriyani Was Tense

INDOSPORT.COM – PBSI’s Head of Achievement Development, Rionny Mainaky, became one of the historical witnesses when Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu won the women’s doubles badminton gold medal at the 2020 Olympics, Monday (2/8/21).

Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu managed to tackle the Chinese pair, Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan, in straight sets with a score of 21-19, 21-15, so they could maintain the gold medal tradition.

“Praise God, our target of defending the gold medal was achieved, we also got a bronze medal,” explained Rionny Mainaky when contacted by the PR and Media Team of PP PBSI.

“All of this is thanks to all the prayers and support from the Indonesian people as well as all parties in PBSI who have served the athletes and coaches very well, so they can train optimally,” continued Rionny.

Watching the final match live at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Tokyo, on Monday (2/8/21), Rionny then admitted that he had experienced tension.

The reason is, Greysia / Apriyani became the only representatives of Red and White in the final, and the reputation of Indonesian badminton was at stake in that match. Moreover, both of them also looked tense when off the field.

“I was tense, it’s normal as an ordinary human being. But then again, prayer really strengthens me,” said Rionny Mainaky.

“I saw their warm-up, both of them looked tense, especially Apri. When I entered the field, I saw them playing calmly, finally I was able to calm down,” he said.
