Homophobic scandal of the Ried fans in the derby against LASK – football

Ried fans ensure a bitter aftertaste with homophobic insults in the derby win against LASK. The clubs react to “Today”.

7,300 fans turned the Rieder Stadium into a cauldron on Sunday. The “Vikings” defeated favorite LASK in the Upper Austria derby on the sixth match day of the Bundesliga with 1: 0, have escaped their rivals in the table and celebrate themselves as the “number 1 in the country”.

Ried goalie Samuel Sahin-Radlinger, who became a match winner thanks to his brilliant parades, cheered on “Sky”: “So far the greatest victory in Ried!” Before he ran to the fan curve, sang and danced with colleagues and fans.

Homophobes Plakat

As exuberant as the pictures of the celebrating Ried fans were after the final whistle, some scenes during the match were so sobering. Behind the gate in the Rieder fan block, a homophobic poster was displayed together with pyrotechnics. The pictures were accompanied by chants: “Schwuler ASK.”

The same is also written on the relevant banner. Below are two players kissing. One wears a rainbow bow on his arm – a symbol of the “LGBTQ +” community. The other has the number 36 on his back. This substitute goalkeeper belongs to Thomas Gebauer in the LASK squad. The longtime Ried keeper is no longer very popular as a “defector” to the rival in his old homeland. Both wear pink jerseys, which unfortunately cannot be seen in the following picture. The Rieder play on the pink on the Linz dress.

Incidentally, LASK fans are also not exactly thrilled that the club is breaking the tradition of the club colors black and white for the sponsor “BWT”.

All in all, it is a deeply homophobic poster that is intended to provoke and insult the opponent. A player is even attacked directly. That is not up to date.

Ried against homophobia, but defends the fan scene

“Today” asked the two clubs at noon on Tuesday.

LASK finds it “sad that something like this still happens in Austria’s stadiums”. When asked “Today”, the Linzers make it clear: “That is unacceptable. Homophobia is definitely to be condemned. You will certainly see it that way in Ried as well. Unfortunately, you can never prevent something like that entirely. But we are happy that our fan scene has developed in the right direction in recent years. Incidents are really rare. ” What bothers the derby losers: The poster was not a spontaneous action that happened out of emotion. “Somebody worked on it for hours and prepared it.”

The double holder was seen again and again throughout the game – not only for stadium visitors and the teams, but also for TV viewers.

SV Ried responded with a statement rejecting homophobia and announcing that the fans would come to terms with it. The club defends the fan scene in it. The following is the wording of the Ried statement:

“Such statements are not pleasant for us as a club, but they cannot always be prevented, especially with such an explosive derby as against LASK. The fan groups of the clubs try to demean each other by making such statements. It is primarily about the insult itself and less about the actually transported content. Unfortunately, topics such as homophobia are also used for what we as a club naturally reject in every respect. As a club, we clearly oppose any form of homophobia, racism and discrimination. We fully support our fan scene and meet regularly with our fan clubs. Incidents of this kind are of course discussed so that they do not happen again in the future. “

One year ago: Sexism anger through Rapid poster

Such incidents are unpleasant for the clubs concerned. For comparison: Rapid fans caused a stir a little more than a year ago with a sexist poster. “A stadium with empty seats is like sharpening a shiache oide,” protested Ultras against corona ghost games last summer. The lettering was removed from the West Block of the Allianz Stadium by the club before kick-off. Club icon Gustl Starek then terminated his membership in the club, for example. Sponsors turned away.
