The Libertas Basket School merges into the society of President Pedone: “In this way we strengthen the bond with the territory”
UDINE. Udinese basketball unites under a single symbol. In fact, “W.Apu” was born, an acronym that stands for Women Apu and which in fact brings together the Delser Libertas Basket School into the Apu company. Two teams at the top of the A2 series, one in the men’s field and one in the women’s field, under the same roof, with the same colors and the same desire to be protagonists. The historic agreement was signed at the headquarters of the Amg notary’s office in Udine, in the presence of the lawyer Andrea Maistrello, the president of the APU Alessandro Pedone and the top manager of the Libertas Basket School Leonardo de Biase.
This new sports project is not to be considered a merger, but the birth of a temporary association of purpose: the two companies maintain their own Fip code and economic independence. Women Apu will play the women’s A2 series always at the Benedetti stadium with the faithful main sponsor Delser on the uniforms, which will however be black and white with the W. Apu logo and the same technical sponsor. The agreement also concerns the women’s Under 19 team. The historic orange does not completely end up in the attic: it will be used for the third kit on some special occasions.
Speaking of history, it is good to remember that with the orange of the old Apu (Associazione Pallacanestro Udinese) the women’s basketball of the Friulian capital sewed three championships on the chest, dominating the Serie A in pink from 1959 to 1962. The future, instead , is made up of synergies to be developed in common, to increase visibility and interest in basketball not only locally but also nationally and, at the same time, guarantee an even more important role to the numerous sponsors who support the movement.
“The enhancement of the territory and the development of the competitive sector of the respective teams – reads a joint note from APU and LBS – both involved in national A2 series championships, promoting a shared growth path, represent the main purpose of the initiative” .
Another aspect of absolute importance is the reduction of gender disparity, thanks to the enhancement of the variation of sport for women with concrete support for it, through synergies of an economic, logistic, technical and communication nature. A similar operation has already been implemented by some of the most important national basketball clubs: Reyer Venezia, Virtus Bologna and Dinamo Sassari.

Satisfaction also in the words of the president of Libertas, Leo de Biase: “A sports project is born in Udine which, even before the recognition of gender equality increasingly necessary today, creates the conditions for a program of great development in Udine basketball , starting from the excellence of the A2 teams ». –
