Heartbreaking defeat for archer Karen Van Nest in the round of 16

Karen Van Nest’s course in archery ended in the round of 16 of the compound individual event on Sunday in Tokyo.

The Ontarian lost her duel to defending Chinese Paralympic runner-up Lin Yueshan by a score of 142-140.

The Chinese led after the first three sets, but Van Nest managed a comeback in the fourth with 29 points. Yueshan, however, was perfect on her last lap in front of the target, which allowed her to secure the victory. Van Nest recorded her worst score of the game with 27.

The 58-year-old was making his sixth appearance at the Paralympic Games, but only his second to appear in archery. She finished the competition in 9th place in Rio.
