Gold in badminton for the Danish Axelsen, Cordón’s executioner in the semifinals

Tokyo, Aug 2 (EFE) .- The Danish Viktor Alexen ended a streak of three consecutive editions with Chinese champions and won the individual badminton gold at the Tokyo Games with a clear victory over Chen Long, gold in Rio 2016, by 21-15 and 21-12.

The number 3 in the world, who won his second medal after the bronze of the previous Games, was the one who defeated Guatemalan Kevin Cordón in the semifinals, who today also lost the match for third place.

Alexen once again made a good return on his stature and dominated the game from the service, although he also exhibited great aggression near the net.

A series of five consecutive points in the second set was decisive in precipitating the outcome.

Since badminton entered the program of the Barcelona’92 Games, four of the men’s gold medal winners have been Chinese. Two victories for Indonesia and two for Denmark complete the record.
