German Alexander Zverev is the new Olympic tennis champion

German tennis player Alexander Zverev (No. 5 in the ATP ranking) was proclaimed the new Olympic champion by beating Russian Karen Khachanov (No. 25) in the final of the men’s individual tournament this Sunday by a clear 6-3 and 6-1.

The German, who in the semifinals defeated the great favorite of the tournament, the Serbian Novak Djokovic, wins the first gold medal for Germany in tennis since 1988, when Steffi Graff won it in the women’s single.
