The ZDF sports presenter and former athlete Wolf-Dieter Poschmann has died. He died at the age of 70.
The ZDF sports presenter and former athlete Wolf-Dieter Poschmann has died, as ZDF announced on Monday. He died last Friday at the age of 70 after a brief, serious illness. ZDF editor-in-chief Peter Frey praised Poschmann as “one of the defining faces and one of the memorable voices of many sports programs in the second.” Frey: “Wolf-Dieter Poschmann conveyed many great sporting moments to ZDF viewers in a vivid, competent and passionate way for the athletes’ performance.”
Poschmann, who was born in Cologne on May 22, 1951, was voted TV journalist of the year several times and was the head of the ZDF sports department and later chief reporter for many years.
Longstanding moderator of the “current sports studio”
From 1986 Poschmann worked for ZDF. In 1993 he became a permanent editor in the main sports department, two years later he became its head. In 2005 he moved to the position of chief reporter in the main sports department. Former middle-distance runners retired after the 2016 Summer Olympics.
From 1994 to 2011 Poschmann moderated the “current sport studio” on ZDF. As a moderator and commentator, he was also regularly used at major sporting events.
