Conor Fields, an American who suffered a severe fall at the Tokyo BMX, was diagnosed with cerebral hemorrhage, but is no longer in the intensive care unit.

At the 28-year-old Rio de Janeiro Olympic champion BMX cycling, mother Lisa Fields wrote on social media instead of Facebook that the athlete will not need surgery for now. While he is awake, Fields is fully conscious and communicating with others, Fields said, noting that recent CT scans show that there is cerebral hemorrhage, but it does not intensify and there is no other damage.

The U.S. Cycling Union also confirmed that the athlete spent one night in the intensive care unit, but no new bleeding was detected. It has already been reported that on Friday, in the third race of the Tokyo Olympic Games semifinals, 28-year-old Fields suffered a severe fall and was taken from the track to a stretcher and taken to hospital.

After the first two rounds, the race favorite Fields was in fourth place. In the semi-final race he started from the first position, then fell and remained motionless on the asphalt, while he was crossed by two competitors. Nick Kimman from the Netherlands, who quickly won the lead, became the champion of BMX cycling at the Tokyo Olympics, silver was won by British Clay White and bronze by Carlos Ramires Jepes from Colombia, who also finished third five years ago in Rio de Janeiro.
