National champions Atlético Madrid dropped their first points in the final game of the third match day in La Liga on Sunday evening. In the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, the Atléti, with Yannick Carrasco at the kick-off, drew 2-2 against Europa League winner Villarreal.
Atlético fell behind after 52 minutes after a goal from Manuel Trigueros. Barely a few minutes later, Luis Suarez brought the home team alongside, fifteen minutes before the whistle, former Club Brugge player Arnaut Danjuma made it 1-2. A nevertheless active Carrasco had just before been taken to the side. The equalizer came in the very last minute of added time, after an own goal by Aissa Mandi and Atlético narrowly avoided a home defeat.
They are in the lead with seven out of nine, next to Real, Sevilla, Mallorca, Valencia and FC Barcelona. Villarreal is in tenth place with three points.
