American Harris English kept pace at the St. Jude invite on Friday in Memphis to complete the second round exactly where he started, at the top of the standings.

The 32-year-old had an eagle, four birdies and a boguey, which allowed him to hand over a 65 (-5) card. After 36 holes, he has a cumulative score of 127 (-13).

“Everything is working wonderfully at the moment. My strategy is good, starting with my tee shots, ”said English, in an interview at the end of his round.

“Several of the guys are trying to power the ball. My main goal is to get the ball in the fairway. I play well with my irons and no matter which one I have in my hand, I feel like I can get the ball close to the flag. ”

English still hold a two-strike lead over their closest pursuers, but unlike the day before, it’s not a quartet, but a duo that shares second place.

The Mexican Abraham Ancer and the Australian Cameron Smith each managed a clear round to climb just behind the leader. The first set eight birdies while the second set one eagle and six birdies.

In fact, Smith tied a PGA record for the fewest putts in a single round at 18, an average of one per pennant. Among other things, he completed a hole with a shot from the fairway, another while he was in a sand trap and two more while the ball was on the edge of the green.

“It’s a great feat to have next to your name,” said Smith.

“It’s always fun to wedge the ball in the hole over long distances, whether it’s from the green or not. I just had a good day on the greens. ”

For his part, the only Canadian in the competition, Corey Conners, took a shot at par 70 in the second round. Despite this result, he fell 12 places in the standings, he who now shares 25th place with four other golfers, due to a cumulative 136 (-4).
