The Danish Viktor Axelsen won the gold medal in the individual badminton competition of the Tokyo Olympics on Monday after defeating the Chinese Chen Long, defender of the title won five years ago in Rio de Janeiro, clearly by 21- 12 and 21-15.
Axelsen, who won the bronze medal in the Brazilian city, returned the dominance of Olympic badminton to his countries 25 years after his compatriot Poul-Erik Hoeyer Larsen was crowned the winner at the Atlanta Games.
On the other hand, in the fight for the bronze medal, the victory went to the Indonesian Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, who defeated the surprising Guatemalan Kevin Cordon in two sets by 21-11 and 21-13.
