Champions Trophy: LOSC wins against PSG thanks to Xeka

A few weeks after ending the hegemony of PSG in Ligue 1, Lille put it back, this time in the Champions Trophy, Sunday in Tel Aviv. Thanks to a magnificent goal from Xeka scored just before the break (1-0), the French champions prevented the Parisians from winning this title for the ninth consecutive time. And so it’s a premiere night for the Mastiffs, who are ideally launching a 2021/2022 season that promises to be more complicated than the previous one. PSG, for its part, will be able to be satisfied with the good performances of its recruits.

Despite a packed stadium and a poster, on paper, dream, we will not remember much of this 2021 edition of the Champions Trophy. Mauricio Pochettino’s men were keen to get revenge after abandoning the Ligue 1 championship costume, but Lille again played a bad trick on them, which is starting to become a habit. Solid behind and efficient in front, Jocelyn Gourvennec’s men have applied to the letter a plan that worked so well last season. Opposite, the PSG bis team had the ball but, offensively, it was still too insufficient to destabilize the iron defense led by José Fonte.

For Pochettino, Hakimi “stayed focused” despite the whistles

First Champions Trophy for LOSC

Dominated in the game, the Mastiffs got the first clear opportunity: a free kick from Burak Yilmaz deflected by Keylor Navas (6th), who then threw himself into the feet of the Lille striker on the next action. But it was not until a magnificent strike from Xeka to see the scoreboard unlock (1-0, 44th), while the Parisians, despite better possession, had too little worried about Leo Jardim. Mauricio Pochettino will have at least appreciated the face shown by Achraf Hakimi who, under the whistles of the public, was very available and diligent in his hallway.

Upon returning from the locker room, the Mastiffs were content to lock, proceeding against and leaving the Parisians to continue to stumble on their wall, in which Mauro Icardi will never have existed. There is a small fright on a head of Abdou Diallo at the fall of a corner (56th) and it was necessary that Jardim closes the shop on a resumption of the right at point blank range of Georginio Wijnaldum, author of an entry in promising game (90th + 1). Lille finally held on without ever breaking up to afford the first Champions Trophy in its history. One week before the resumption of Ligue 1, the Mastiffs could not have dreamed of better and confirm their status as the bête noire of a PSG too paralyzed by its absentees in Tel Aviv.
