Cam Newton cut by the Patriots, Mac Jones holder!

Pretty incredible thunderclap in New England. Cam Newton didn’t just lose the fight for the quarterback position, he lost his job altogether!

NFL Media announces that the quarterback has been cut by the Patriots.

Starting last season, Newton was re-signed to everyone’s surprise during the offseason. But with a full offseason and recovering from his injuries, he seemed able to bring a little more. On his preseason outings, he made a 14/21 record for 162 yards, 1 touchdown and an interception.

Mac Jones was pretty much more prominent, with a cumulative record of 36/52 for 389 yards and 1 touchdown. In recent days, Bill Belichick did not want to give up on the choice of his starting pitcher. In the end, he made a firm decision, dispensing with Newton, which in effect gave Jones the keys to the attack.

Behind Jones, we will find the eternal Brian Hoyer, but also the young Jarrett Stidham.

At 32, Newton should bounce back elsewhere, but he surely hadn’t planned on having to put his agent to work this time of year. If the Patriots cut him, it’s likely for purely financial reasons. His contract included a bonus of $ 1.5 million per active squad game. High for a replacement.

Newton is not to be pitied, for the few months spent in New England in 2021, he still leaves with 2 million signing bonuses and 1.5 million guaranteed salary.
