Braves maintain good streak with victory over Nationals

ATLANTA (AP) – Ozzie Albies and Adam Duvall each hit a two-run homer off Patrick Corbin’s pitch, Max Fried looked solid in six innings and the Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals 5-4 on Sunday night.

Albies came in on a 26-3 batting pothole, but woke up with his 18th home run to put it 2-1 in the third inning.

Corbin has homered 27, the most in the National League, and is 0-4 with a 7.22 ERA in his last five starts. The southpaw has taken the loss in his last five starts against Atlanta.

The Braves, three-time defending champions in the East Division, started the day two games behind Philadelphia and in third place in the division. They took a series for the second time in a row, having stacked series wins from June 29 to July 4 against the New York Mets and Miami Marlins.

Fried was 1-1 with an 8.44 ERA in three starts against the Nationals this season. Fried (9-7) left runners on base at first and third to end danger in the sixth inning. He ended up giving up seven hits, one run and one walk, striking out five.

For the Braves, the Venezuelan Ehire Adrianza 3-0. Cuban Jorge Soler 4-0.

For the Nationals, Cuban Yadiel Hernández 4-2. Venezuelans Alcides Escobar 5-2 with scored and an RBI and Gerardo Parra 1-0. The Dominicans Víctor Robles 5-1 with scored and RBI and Juan Soto 1-0.
