That’s the number one question for the Patriots camp: who will be the starting quarterback in September? At a press conference, Bill Belichick gave his answer as reported by the Boston Globe and NFL Media. And the favorite seems to be Cam Newton.
The start of the conference, however, sowed confusion, Belichick insisting on the principle of competition.
“We will look at the whole situation. I don’t think you want to rate players at any position over one or two games or maybe one day. From a consistency point of view, that’s always important, and obviously so is production. I hope these things will be good, and I am sure it will be a difficult decision. But we’ll see how it goes. Let them play and try to do what we think is best for the team based on their performance. “
After this statement, the competition seems open, but it was then that Bill Belichick clarified his thoughts on the position of quarterback.
” No. I mean, Cam (Newton) is our starting quarterback, I think I said it. “
Paradoxical? Not necessarily. Cam Newton is the holder today, but that will not necessarily be the case throughout the season. While it is still difficult to decipher the words of the Patriots head coach, it seems likely that Newton will start the season and Mac Jones will learn in the shadows.
