In the middle of the race, which took place on eight almost kilometer circuits, Cink moved to the top of the strong eleven-member group leader. He was able to step up the already very sharp pace and thus took care of its rupture. He developed a small lead and the only one who managed to hold on to him was the Brazilian Henrique Avancini.

Then Blevins, German Maximilian Brandl and South African Alan Hatherly caught up with the leading pair. After a while, Brandl tried to attack, but half a lap before the finish he was also overtaken. Zinc figured in medal positions for a long time, but in the end he remained just below the podium. Blevins followed the silver medal from Wednesday’s relay, the second was Avancini, the third Brandl. Jan Škarnitzl finished 26th.

Thirty-one-year-old Čábelická was unlucky right at the beginning, when she ended up after a few meters due to a collision on the ground. In the finish, she lost 68 seconds to the winner. Jana Czeczinkarová, the second Czech representative in the starting field, took 31st place. The triumph of Frei, the second woman of the Olympic cross country competition in Tokyo, was only confirmed by a photofinish in the battle for gold with the British Evie Richards. Bronze was won by Pauline Ferrand-Prévotová from France.

Karolína Bedrníková took seventh place among juniors in the cross country race. The Frenchwoman Line Burquier won, her compatriot Adrien Boichis was the best in the junior category. Both were already members of the winning French team in the relay race on Wednesday and have already won the second gold in the Italian ski area.

Bedrníková also imitated the location of the Czech relay. She lost over three minutes to the new champion. Burquier emerged victorious from a duel with compatriot Olivia Onesti, who finished for silver five seconds later. Home competitor Sara Cortinovisová was only a second slower.

Boichis, on the other hand, clearly dominated the race. Silver Colombian Camilo Gómez was a minute and 13 seconds slower. Bronze was won by Nils Aebersold from Switzerland. The best of the trio of Czech representatives at the start was the 23rd Filip Konečný with a deficit of almost five and a quarter minutes to the winner.
