Argentina fell to Mexico and finished fourth | National Selection

In a match marked by favorable passages for both, Argentina ended up falling to Mexico 72-67, and thus was left off the podium at the FIBA Americas U16 for women held in Guanajuato.

At the start of the meeting it was the blue and white who was best planted. Correcting mistakes that were seen in the debut, precisely against the housewives, our girls were more serene in attack and firm in defense.

With that combination they took the reins of the match, and without making a difference that was associated with what that moment of the night was, they got to the second chapter up by seven, 16-9.

In that period the highest volume of play of our Selection will be seen. Cutting his opponent’s goal lines and taking very good shooting choices, Argentina crushed in such a way that they catapulted 30-17 to reach the average.

Everything will change after a time-out requested by the local bank. With the return of that minute, the Mexicans were planted in a pressure throughout the field, which accompanied by a couple of long-distance bombings, not only changed her face, but quickly put them back into play.

The Creoles did not know how to cope with that bad moment, and with a burst against 14-0 they reached the long break down by the minimum, 31-30.

The locker room return showed two matches in one. During the first minutes they could not draw differences, mainly because the adjustments of one and the other of the field had an effect.

But as the possessions passed, the Mexican efficiency was noticed, and that was how it took off again by nine points (47-38), reaching 11 time later (54-43). Argentina, with more enthusiasm than basketball, made up that closing and got to eight (54-46) for the final chapter.

There, ours struck first and gave way to illusion. They quickly got to five, once again taking advantage of the combination of defense + timely choice in attack. However, this did not last in time, and the rivals managed to regain their calm.

With the clock and the difference on their side, the housewives managed to put back 10 points of gap between them when they reached the average, and when everything suggested that the outcome was a no-brainer, once again our girls gave step forward.

Redoubling efforts in attack, loading the offensive rebound and running whenever they could, they cut the margin until they were just three, with a triple by Angelina Giacone with 43 seconds left.

At that moment the Mexican team lit up, it managed to break the pressure easily, and despite the fact that the blue and white was once again at three (67-64 at 25 seconds), the hosts showed efficiency when they needed it most, to stay with the 72-67 victory.

At a statistical level Delfina Cergneaux was the top national scorer with 17 points, followed by Angelina Giacone and Juana Amaya, both with 13 and Alma Bourgarel who topped another 10.

Despite not having been able to get on the podium, the National Team fulfilled the maximum objective of entering the U17 World Cup next year, for which it will surely redouble its preparation efforts, within a world (hopefully) with a little more normality to which they had to cope in these last months.
