Archery: Thomas Chirault (Stade Clermontois) wants to continue his good progress in Tokyo

Thomas Chirault fought to get there, this ambition is now a reality. The archer from the Stade Clermontois will participate, from July 23 to 31, in the archery events of the Olympic Games. A dream that he has always achieved individually, but also as a team, alongside Pierre Plihon and Jean-Charles Valladont. The latter is also the last French crowned at the Olympics, with the individual silver in Rio in 2016.

Recovering an Olympic medal will not be easy for the original Picard. Besides his teammate, only Sébastien Flute returned with the precious sesame, in gold, in 1992. A feat awaits him.

Twelve Auvergnats on their way to the Tokyo Olympic Games

Florian Chienno is his trainer at Stade Clermontois and knows Thomas Chirault well. A discreet boy, sure of his qualities, who is already aiming high for these Olympics.

The young man arrived in Auvergne through the Stade Clermontois men’s D1 team. In search of the best archers in France, the club observed and discussed with the archer on several competitions, before proposing to Picard to join them. “One day, we decided to bet on him and we asked him to join the team, he liked the project so he came. »Says Florian.

He has a crazy level today which makes him, in my eyes, the number one French.

The 23-year-old archer is part of a collective, a team. An important dimension for Florian Chienno, who underlines the qualities of Thomas Chirault, which stick perfectly to the philosophy of the Clermont club.

“Thomas is very calm, collected and thoughtful. He also knows how to accompany others when he does, and he has a crazy level today, which makes him, in my eyes, the number one French. He is a relatively discreet person but he fits in very well with the group. When he wants to impose an idea, he imposes it, there is no problem. He is very involved in what he does, very methodical. He is relentlessly rigorous. When he trains, he trains. Outside of training he’s great to live with. He is relaxed, he is a bon vivant too. “

He has a monumental capacity to be in his bubble, to concentrate.

As for his archer profile, Thomas Chirault ticks most of the characteristics to perform in this discipline. The Picard knows his qualities and his faults perfectly, which can sometimes cause him some damage, as his coach explains.

“He’s a perfectionist and stubborn. He is able to stay on a technical detail that annoys him, even if it means making a little fewer points. His gesture must be perfect. He has a monumental capacity to be in his bubble, to concentrate. He has the will to be better than the others, he is a fighter and he always follows his convictions. “

The hope of an Olympic medal

The Olympic Games are every archer’s dream. Florian Chienno is convinced, his pupil “is largely capable of going for a medal, whether by team or individual. He didn’t come all this way for nothing. It is the culmination of everything. He’s in that state of mind too. “

The Stade Clermontois archer will try to surprise his world, to go and win an Olympic medal, the ultimate consecration. The road is still long and begins next night, at 2 am French time.
