What seemed impossible for a long time has now been realized: a transfer of Dutch talent Joshua Zirkzee to Anderlecht. The player himself had been interested in a temporary transfer to Lotto Park for weeks, only Bayern Munich did not want to cooperate. Sunday in the course of the day came a breakthrough, today Zirkzee successfully passed his medical tests. This afternoon he arrived at Neerpede and Anderlecht were able to officialize the deal.
It concerns a loan of one season without purchase option. Bayern Munich still believes in the forward-looking attacker, who has a contract in Germany until 2023. Anderlecht are currently doing everything they can to get Zirkzee eligible to play against Laçi on Thursday, and to be able to take him to Albania in the first place. However, there are no guarantees.
Zirkzee herself is delighted to be in Brussels. “After a phone call with Vincent Kompany, there was an immediate click. I felt a lot of confidence from the club and the playing style and philosophy really appeal to me. I feel ready to contribute to the team and help the club achieve its goals.”
“Joshua is a young striker with enormous potential,” says sporting director Peter Verbeke. “It fits within our philosophy to guide him further in his development and to achieve results at the same time. Joshua can keep up with the ball, is good in combination and has an individual action. In this way, we are once again adding extra quality to our core.”
Another striker?
In the preparation, Zirkzee, who made his debut in 2019 and immediately charmed, made a few minutes in the preparation, but this weekend he was missing because of his imminent transfer. Last season Bayern loaned Zirkzee to Parma. That did not turn out as hoped: the youth product of ADO Den Haag and Feyenoord sustained an injury to the outer ligament of the knee, which cost him a long rehabilitation.
Zirkzee does not have to be seen as the man who has to fill the gap left by Lukas Nmecha on his own. After all, in an ideal world, there will be another striker. Anderlecht don’t want to rush anything, it follows several slopes.
