Ambition Continues, After the Olympics, Sudirman and Thomas-Uber Cups Publish

KOMPAS.com – The Central Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) continues to aspire to produce achievements.

After the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, PBSI also carries big ambitions in the next two tournaments, namely the Sudirman Cup and the Thomas-Uber Cup.

As for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Indonesian badminton team managed to bring home two medals, one gold and one bronze.

The gold medal was donated by the women’s doubles, Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu, who in the final match succeeded in defeating the Chinese seeds, Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan.

This achievement fulfills the target carried by PBSI at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which is to defend the gold medal which in the Rio 2016 edition was won by the mixed doubles Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir.

PBSI is pleased with the achievement of this target. However, they don’t want to be dissolved in happiness because there are still a number of other prestigious events that will be held in the near future.

Regarding this, Agung Firman Saputra as the General Chair of PBSI reminded the athletes to take advantage of the available rest time and return to preparing for the next tournament.

This needs to be reminded because PBSI has big ambitions to win.

“The feeling of happiness for winning (the medal) is still very strong, but the rest time is only for a short time,” Agung said, quoted from Antara News.

“We have to prepare for international tournaments, namely the Sudirman Cup and the Thomas-Uber Cup. We have big ambitions to win,” said Agung.

The 2021 Sudirman Cup is scheduled to be held in Vantaa, Finland, from September 23 to October 3.

One week later, the Thomas-Uber Cup, which has been delayed by a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will take place in Aarhus, Denmark, on October 9-17.

Agung said that the big tournaments could also be a means of “revenge” for athletes who have not been lucky at the Tokyo Olympics.

With the achievement of two medals from the Tokyo Olympics and the evaluation of players, he hopes that the supremacy of Indonesian badminton can return this year.
