Alba and Busquets give up easy variables and defer 60% of their salary

BarcelonaIn a frantic day in the offices of the Camp Nou, in addition to addressing the latest market operations, Barça has made official the salary reduction of two more captains. These are Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, who give up around 25% of their salary, forgiving easily compliant variables, such as the club overcoming the group stage of the Champions League and advancing qualifiers in the competition. On the other hand, the two footballers have also agreed with the Barça entity to defer around 60% of their salary this season and collect it next year (2022-2023). Closing this agreement with the side of L’Hospitalet and the midfielder of Badia del Vallès has allowed Kun Agüero to register in the League and extend the limit of the fair play financial stipulated by the football employer.

In this way, Alba and Busquets join Gerard Piqué as the first three players in the squad who, in addition to deferring part of their salary last season, are now giving up part of their salary and accepting a new deferral. The reduction of the Barcelona center-back was decisive before the start of the League so that Memphis, Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj –who has left on loan to the Italian Spice– could then be registered. The case of the fourth captain, Sergi Roberto, is different and more complicated because the Reus midfielder ends his contract at the end of this season and, therefore, a new bond must be negotiated with the player.

The case of Sergi Roberto, apart

Roberto’s entourage say that there is no problem in accepting a salary deferral and renegotiating bonuses when Barça and the midfielder sign a new contract. The will of both the player and Barça is to renew. In this sense, the two parties have agreed to continue negotiating the terms of a renewal in which the main obstacle is to reach an agreement on the new remuneration of the midfielder trained in the squad. On the part of the player, they understand and accept that Barça is proposing a downward renewal, but they consider that the current proposed figures are “very” low.

It is currently a topic that remains stuck, but the will of both parties is to reach an understanding. In fact, Roberto has already made it clear that he does not want to leave Barça and feels that he has to tighten his belt to help the club. This is what he said in an interview with The vanguard: “We want to collaborate from the first minute, but there has been a lot of talk about it without knowing anything and we have been beaten that we don’t understand.”
