Yankees and Rangers would have agreed for Gallo

The Yankees have made an impact move ahead of the trade deadline by agreeing to acquire gunner Joey Gallo from the Rangers, a source informed Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Gallo was ruled out of the Texas lineup for the game against the D-backs on Wednesday.

Neither team has confirmed the move.

The 27-year-old Gallo is hitting just .223 this season but has a .379 on-base and .490 slugging percentage and leads the majors with 74 walks. The veteran has hit 25 of his 145 career home runs this year.

Gallo, who won’t be a free agent until after the 2022 season, was called up to his second All-Star Game this season. This year, he has been exclusively a right fielder and won a Gold Glove as such in 2020.

In his career, Gallo has also started left field, center field, first base and third base, in addition to serving as a designated hitter.

Gallo is owed just over $ 2 million for the remainder of the season, so the Yankees would remain below the $ 210 million Competitive Balance Tax limit even after adding the slugger.
