Stefanie Vögele won her first game on the WTA Tour since April. The Argovian defeated the American Francesca Di Lorenzo 3-6 6-2 6-2 at the Ladies Open in Lausanne.
For more than three months and the tournament in Bogota, the wait was long for Vögele (WTA 130) to win a meeting in the main draw of a WTA tournament. And since the rain has been inviting since the start of the week in Lausanne, the wait still lasted 2 more days.
Instead of Monday, Vögele had to wait until Wednesday to deliver his first round match against Di Lorenzo. The 31-year-old Argovian also experienced a bit of a delay in ignition. She lost the first set 6-3 to the American, ranked 31 behind her in the WTA, before she reacted 2-2 in the second set and went on to win 10 of the last 12 games.
In the round of 16, she could meet her compatriot Jil Teichmann (WTA 56) if the Biennoise gets rid of the Belgian Maryna Zanevska (WTA 193) in the afternoon.
