The padel will soon arrive in Varese. In September, the three fields that the Varese Sports Academy srls company is building in Lissago, in the spaces of the oratory in via Salvini, will be active.

Fausto Cereti and Giovanni Reggiori, two of the three partners of the company that reached an agreement with the curia, owner of the land, presented the project. The third partner is engaged in Tokyo with his national team, where the Olympics are in full swing: is Luis Scola, highly decorated basketball player, with a long past in the NBA and a present in Varese. The Argentine champion found a home right in the Varese district and here he decided to invest together with the two 28-year-olds, who returned to their city after completing their studies abroad.

In addition to the padel fields in the spaces of the sports center there will also be a bar, a 7-a-side football field, benches in the green to spend time outdoors and, as soon as the promoters find the necessary resources, too a play area dedicated to children. An ambitious project, in which both Cereti and Reggiori believe and have invested a lot: they have not talked about numbers, but in addition to the rent agreed with the parish, the costs to build and renovate the former oratory of Lissago are important.

The works, entrusted to the Costruzioni Edili Fontana company and coordinated by the architect Pietro Ferrario of Busto Arsizio, will last about a month and will end at the beginning of September, when the first games can be played: at a later time the fields will be covered in order to play also in the harshest seasons. Soon the concrete will be cast on which the fields will be positioned.

The presentation to the press was made in the hall of the oratory of Lissago, with the participation of several citizens of the ward, all in favor of the initiative. There has been criticism in recent weeks, there is someone who does not agree with the project and who did not hesitate to ride the controversy, but there are also (many) voices in favor that have shown their favor and have shown their favor to the idea.

«We left nine months ago, Luis embraced the idea and joined us – Cereti and Reggiori told -. We have done all the necessary studies, we believe in this project and we have invested a lot in it. Padel is a growing sport, which has ample room for development, it is not a passing trend: in Varese, in the city, there are no fields (the closest ones are in Barasso and Lozza) and we believe that this is a central point that gives strength to our project. We also want to create here the first academy in this area dedicated to this sport, with high level teachers ready to follow us in this adventure. It will be a sustainable project, which is part of a context surrounded by greenery like Lissago, a real oasis, as we have decided to call the sports center, Padel Varese Oasis. We want to bring back to life a corner of this ward that has been abandoned for too long, while guaranteeing attention to social issues and events that have always found hospitality in this space. The festivals of the town, to understand, are guaranteed by contract with the curia. We also wanted to create a parking area with 15 seats to serve the sports center, but also the district ».

«The criticisms they have addressed to us have been many and with too bright tones: we can say that we have not done anything secretly, we have followed the necessary process to get to the approval, with continuous meetings and dialogues with Don Giampietro Corbetta, with the representatives of the parish, with the Municipality. This is an area with a high sporting vocation, there is rowing in the Schiranna style, gliding, athletics in Calcinate, horse racing in Mustonate, the padel will add an important element – added the two promoters of the initiative -. We will respect the greenery that surrounds Lissago and we have carried out all the studies on the acoustic and visual impact: when it is finished we are sure that everyone will be able to appreciate what we have achieved. We will also bring the bar and the neighboring kitchens up to standard, the changing rooms and the seven-a-side pitch, which will be made available to the community, perhaps finding a CSI team that can play and keep it alive. We played here as children with the oratory of San Vittore, we are linked to this place. We have tried to maintain a balance between sport, nature, environment, reselling the project to disturb as little as possible. Padel is a little noisy sport, less than basketball, it does not bring traffic (maximum 12 people on full fields, with a 15-seat car park) ».

Someone opposed to the project is still there and will certainly be heard. From the hall of the oratory to the presentation of the project, several people from Lissago took the floor and showed appreciation for the idea. Between them Giuseppe Carcano, 70, who has always lived in Lissago: «It is not true that they are all against it, on the contrary – he said -. I will also come to play, this is a value for the country, I think that most of the people will be happy and maybe a light bulb will light up on the problems that have always existed in Lissago, road conditions in mind ».
