Turkish Mete Gazoz crowned individual at the Tokyo Olympics

Turkey now has an Olympic medal in archery. It is the work of Mete Gazoz, 22, who won gold this Saturday by winning in the final against the Italian Mauro Nespoli (6-4).

Vice-European champion in 2016, Gazoz notably dismissed the reigning world champion, the American Brady Ellison, in the quarter-finals (7-3), then the Japanese Takaharu Furukawa, bronze medalist, in the semi-finals (7 -3).

The archery events are now over in Tokyo. South Korea have won four of the five titles at stake (individual and women’s, men’s and mixed teams). Japan, the Russian Olympic Committee and Italy leave with two medals; Taiwan, Mexico, Germany, Turkey and the Netherlands one.
