Is there the first German judo medal from Tokyo today (July 28th, 2021)? The chances are good: Eduard Trippel and Giovanna Scoccimarro are still in the race.

Judoka Eduard Trippel is in the semifinals of the Olympic Games and is fighting for the first medal for the German Judo Association in Tokyo. The 24-year-old from Rüsselsheim prevailed with a strong performance in the quarter-finals against world number three Krisztian Toth from Hungary. At his Olympic premiere, Trippel won the fight in the Golden Score by Waza-ari.

Trippel in the semifinals against Zgank

In the semifinals of the class up to 90 kilograms he will now fight against the Turk Mihael Zgank at noon in the Nippon Budokan. With a win, the world number 15 would have. silver in the middleweight division and thus the first German judo medal of the games for sure.

Scoccimarro on hope round to bronze fight

Giovanna Scoccimarro also has a chance of winning a medal in the weight class up to 70 kilograms. After her defeat in the quarter-finals against the Japanese Chizuru Arai, the 23-year-old from Wolfsburg defeated Elisavet Teltsidou from Greece in the hope round with a golden score. After 2:42 minutes in extra time, Scoccimarro laid her opponent on her back with a tsurikomi-goshi lift throw.

The German world rankings ninth now meets the Dutch Sanne van Dijke in the middleweight bronze fight. The final fights take place around noon.
