Tennis will have more than 50 absences

The Covid-19 pandemic has not been kind to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Restrictions caused by the virus and complications when traveling around the world were many of the reasons why many tennis players chose not to participate. Until the closing of this note, there were more than 50 who will not say present at the Olympic event.

Only in the men’s box, the list of casualties is immense. Rafael Nadal (3rd), Dominic Thiem (5th), Roger Federer (9th), Denis Shapovalov (10th), Roberto Bautista Agut (14th), Caasper Ruud (16th), Cristian Garin (18th), Milos Raonic (22 °) Jannik Sinner (23 °), Dan Evans (28 °) and Stan Wawrinka (30 °) are the eleven Top 30 tennis players who will not be present in Tokyo.

Then the list expands: Cameron Norrie (32°), Reilly Opelka (33°), John Isner (34°), Borna Coric (35°), Taylor Fritz (40°), Albert Ramos-Vinolas (41°), Adrian Mannarino (42°), Dusan Lajovic (43°), Filip Krajinovic (44°), Federico Delbonis (48°), Lloyd Harris (50°), Benoit Paire (51°), Richard Gasquet (54°), Laslo Djere (57°) y Nick Kyrgios (58°) complete the Top 60 players.

If we go down in the ranking, there are even more tennis players who dropped out of the Olympic Games. Complete the list: Vasek Pospisil (61 °), Sam Querrey (68 °), Alexei Popyrin (70 °), Jordan Thompson (71 °), Gianluca Mager (73 °), Guido Pella (75 °), Emil Ruusuvuori (80 °), Jiri Vesely (81 °), Steve Johnson (83 °), Ricardas Berankis (84 °), Kyle Edmund (85 °), Pablo Cuevas (86 °), Andreas Seppi (87 °), Stefano Travaglia (88 °), Feliciano López (90 °), Radu Albot (91 °), Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (92 °), Mikael Ymer (94 °), Pierre-Hugues Herbert (98 °), Lucas Pouille (101 °), Dennis Novak (122 °) and Fernando Verdasco (125 °).

As for women’s tennis, those who will not say present are: Sofia Kenin (4°), Bianca Andreescu (5°), Simona Halep (9°), Victoria Azarenka (14°), Serena Williams (16°), Angelique Kerber (22°), Madison Keys (26°), Johanna Konta (38°) y Shelby Rogers (40°). The list that continues to grow day by day, will surely continue to give names until the start of the Games on July 24.
