Tennis.-Carballés and Carreño reach the quarterfinals in Bastad and Hamburg

Spanish tennis players Roberto Carballés and Pablo Carreño have managed this Thursday to qualify for the quarterfinals of the ATP tournaments in Bastad, category 250, and Hamburg (500), respectively, both on clay, while Albert Ramos and Carlos Taberner said goodbye in Germany and Nuria Parrizas, in the Czech Republic.

In Bastad, Carballés starred in the big surprise of the day after eliminating the Italian Fabio Fognini, third favorite of the tournament, after a match that was resolved in three sets (6-3, 1-6 and 6-4) and two hours and six minutes. The 28-year-old from Tenerife recovered after losing in the second round and is already in the quarterfinals, where he will face the Slovak Norbert Gombos.

For his part, Pablo Carreño imposed his experience on Carlos Taberner in the eighth in Hamburg. The man from Gijón -13th in the ATP ranking- is looking for his second title of the season after the one he won in Marbella and he proved it this Thursday by winning by two sets (7-5 ​​and 6-3) the 114th in the world. His next rival will be the Serbian Dusan Lajovic.

In addition, Albert Ramos – fourth favorite of the tournament – was also eliminated on German clay against Argentine Federico Delbonis (6-3 and 7-6 (4)) after a highly disputed second round. Delbonis, who already beat Ramos in the Madrid Masters 1,000 this year, has once again been his executioner this Thursday. The Catalan already accumulates seven consecutive defeats.

On the other hand, Nuria Parrizas said goodbye to the WTA tournament in Prague in the round of 16 after losing to Australian Storm Sanders in three sets (6-4, 3-6 and 1-6), thus putting an end to her good run of victories after conquering the Bastad tournament the week before, the first for the Granada-born in her career.
