Tadej Pogačar wins the Tour de France 2021

Tadej Pogačar won the 108th Tour de France. The 22-year-old Slovene from Team Emirates brought the overall leader’s yellow jersey safely over the 108.4 kilometers from Chatou to Paris on the Champs-Élysées and became the youngest double winner in tour history after his success last year. The dotted jersey of the best climber and the white jersey of the best young professional also went to Pogačar. The non-aggression pact common to the Tour of France prevailed between the class riders on the last stage, the Belgian Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) secured the day’s victory in the mass sprint.

The Frenchman Franck Bonnamour was named the most combative driver of the tour. Bahrain Victorious won the team competition. The racing team hit the headlines during the week because of a doping raid in the team hotel. In terms of sport, the tour was shaped by the dominance of Pogacar: the previous year’s winner attacked early in the Alps, after his solo ride over the Col de Romme in record time, he no longer gave the yellow jersey here.

The second spring of Mark Cavendish caused a sensation among the sprinters: The Briton in the service of the Deceuninck-Quickstep team won the green jersey of the best sprinter, won four stages and set Eddy Merckx’s career record with 34 stage wins. Nils Politt as an outlier ensured the only German win of the day.
