[Sport] Badminton: back to the fore

Five years after the last edition, the TIB returns to the forefront from July 7 to 11 at Champ Fleuri with a top choice tricolor line-up.

Christophe Chenut is a player. By anticipating the prefectural measures of June 30, the president of the Reunionese badminton league tried a real game of poker. When the leader launched his first invitations, Reunion was still living at the time of the 7 p.m. curfew and sports competitions in the ERP remained prohibited. “I said to myself that, like last year, the measures should become more flexible as the holidays approach”, he simply exposes. A week before the start of this 6th edition, Christophe Chenut therefore witnessed with relief the lifting of the curfew and the increase in the tonnage in the ERP. (300 people authorized at a rate of 50% of the total capacity of the hall for athletes and 35% for spectators).
Thanks to this relaxation of sanitary measures, the TIB will leave no one behind while 158 players have registered for the event and around fifty spectators have already reserved their place in the gymnasium of Champ Fleuri. “There are still about twenty available before reaching the maximum level, specifies Christophe Chenut. During the four days of competition, they will be able to attend no less than 300 matches on the eight pitches that we have set up in rooms S and B of Champ Fleuri. “
In addition to the best premises, spectators will have the opportunity to see a large handful of French numbered players, accompanied by a small armada of boarders from the Strasbourg Hope center. Warned of the relief of compelling reasons last week, the metropolitan delegation arrived yesterday morning in the island.

A global label for 2022

“If you ask the players what are the best tournaments they have participated in, they will all quote the TIB, comments Julien Fuchs, head of the Badminton Espoirs pole and coach of the France team. It’s a tournament where there has always been a great atmosphere with welcoming organizers and a nice field. We were obviously delighted with the return of this tournament and the preparation opportunity that it would offer players before the August deadlines. “
In addition to the four days of competition, the members of the France team will stay four additional days to sharpen their physique in the circuses of the island. They will also participate in a joint training with the young and senior Reunion Island teams next Tuesday at the Saint-Paul IV gymnasium at the stroke of 5 p.m. “We cannot wait for the JIOIs every four years to offer our badists, especially young people, the opportunity to measure themselves against other players, emphasizes Christophe Chenut. For personal reasons, I had to put the tournament on hold after the 2016 edition. Unfortunately, nobody had taken over for the organization in the past five years. It was an unmissable event and it must be done again “. To this end, the TIB will ramp up from next year.
If this 6th edition will allow the organization to get back on track, the 2022 opus should take a new step forward since the event will receive the label of the World Badminton Federation next year. Scheduled from July 13 to 17, the elite tournament will bring together players from the world’s Top 50.
