Sabrina Jaquet ends her career with a loss in Tokyo

No ultimate feat for Sabrina Jaquet (46th world). In Tokyo, for its last international match, La Chaux-de-Fonnière lost 8-21 17-21 in 33 minutes of play against Vietnamese Thuy Linh Nguyen (49th in the world).

As in her previous participations in London in 2012 and Rio in 2016, Sabrina Jaquet left the Olympic Games without having won a match and without having gleaned a single set.

As a reminder, the Neuchâteloise had suffered the law of world number 1 Tai Tzu-ying 7-21 13-21 when she entered the competition in the Japanese capital. For her second match, Sabrina Jaquet was beaten 10-21 14-21 by the French Qi Xuefei (41st world).

In lack of rhythm

For her last outing before putting her racquet away for good, the multiple Swiss champion did not evolve at her best. Reduced by an injury to the left calf at the start of the tournament and still lacking rhythm, the 34-year-old Chaux-de-Fonnière made too many mistakes to hope to win against Thuy Linh Nguyen.

Quickly led 1-11 during the first round, the Neuchâteloise got off to a bad start. Distanced and often picking up speed, the slender Swiss racquet was unable to compete with the 23-year-old Asian.

A second set of good quality

In the second set, Sabrina Jaquet regained color. More conquering, La Chaux-de-Fonnière took the advantage on the scoreboard just before the break (11-10).

Without demerit, the Neuchâteloise finally saw Thuy Linh Nguyen take the lead and win.
