Russian Karen Khachanov qualifies for Olympic final

The 25-year-old Muscovite dominated the game from start to finish by quickly breaking his opponent at the start of the two sets. This victory ensures him to climb on one of the first two steps of the podium. Winner of four titles on the ATP circuit, including the Masters 1000 in Paris in 2018, he is one victory away from writing the best line on his record.

Karen Khachanov becomes the second Russian in history to reach the Olympic men’s singles final. He succeeds Yevgueni Kafelnikov, who won gold in 2000 in Sydney beating Germany’s Tommy Haas.

To equal him, Karen Khachanov will meet the winner of the second semi-final, pitting Serbian world No.1 Novak Djokovic against German Alexander Zverev (ATP5 / N.4). The Serbian is in the running to become the first male player in history to sign the Golden Grand Slam, i.e. removing the four major tournaments and the Olympics in the same season. ‘Nole’ is also still engaged in the mixed doubles table. Associated with Nina Stojanovic, he will challenge the Russians Elena Vesnina and Aslan Karatsev for a place in the final. (
