SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. USA (AP) – The Boston Red Sox, leaders of the American League East, acquired right-hander Hansel Robles of Minnesota and left-hander Austin Davis of Pittsburgh in a pair of trades agreed on Friday.

Boston sent Michael Davis, who can play infield or outfield, to the Pirates and minor league right-hander Alex Scherff to the Twins.
Robles had 45 appearances for the Twins on the season, going 3-4, 10 saves and an ERA of 4.91. He has appeared in 358 games in the majors.
Davis has 65 relief appearances with the Philadelphia Phillies (2018-20) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2020-21), with a 5.65 ERA. The southpaw appeared in 10 games with Pittsburgh and 13 in the minor leagues this year.
“Everyone has seen the good work our bullpen has done this year, and we wanted to back it up by getting some reinforcements to make sure we have as many good options for the final stretch of the season,” said Chaim Bloom, Head of Sports Operations .
Boston started the day with the third-best earned run percentage in the American League at 3.62.
Chavis hit .190 with two homers and six RBIs in 31 games with the Red Sox this season.
Scherff has spent time this season in Double-A with Portland and High-A Greenville, going 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA.
The Red Sox had been quiet before the deadline to make changes in the majors, compared to other contending teams in the AL East.
Tampa Bay got Nelson Cruz and Jordan Luplow, while the Yankees got Joey Gallo and Anthony Rizzo to help swing a loaded lineup to rights. Toronto added closer Brad Hand on Thursday and starter José Berríos on Friday.
Alex Cora, Boston’s manager, wasn’t surprised by all the moves within the division.
“We expected everyone to improve, right? We did it too. We are all playing for a place in the playoffs, “Puerto Rican Cora said.
Boston also got Washington’s Kyle Schwarber on Thursday, who currently has a hamstring injury but may be ready to play in a couple of weeks.
