Racing yesterday and today

Racing Club met on Saturday July 9, a new anniversary of its foundation, which occurred on July 9, 1914. Over the years, with more than ten decades, the club has undergone a transformation that speaks well of the people who had the privilege of leading it and those who do not always appear or are members of directive committees, but have made a great contribution. A club that over the years has been at the forefront with activities that are not common, such as the indoor swimming pool, the paddle ball court, also unique or in sport with the practice of rugby, where are the only local representatives at the regional and provincial level. The billiard room is not alien to an activity that is practiced only in two clubs in Chivilcoy.

But these activities must be added the sustained practice of field hockey, with more than 30 years participating in regional tournaments. Although basketball is practiced in other local clubs, the representations of Racing at the provincial and national level, stand out in full, currently playing in the Argentine League. The practice of Judo is also particular at the local level.

The sports field located on 3 de Febrero Avenue, with two fields for rugby practice and one for ice hockey, with lounges and grills, represent an enormous stage of growth. The imposing hall on Calle Alsina (today used as a vaccination center) is a source of pride for the city.

Through the contribution of the local historian Juan Antonio Larrea, we can show images of the first headquarters and the already demolished pediment, which had its back turned to Belgrano Street. Larrea also gave us the photo of the unforgettable Jos Goi (El Porteo), who was the World champion of Basque pelota.
