Tadej Pogacar was not satisfied with simply defending his yellow jersey after his win yesterday. “I felt good again, but on the Tourmalet the pace was already crazy. I could only focus on the race. On the final climb I had to give the maximum, but I win again: crazy!”
When asked by the interviewer how sure he is of the overall victory, Pogacar remains cautious. “Maybe 50%. It’s still 3 days. But it’s looking good.”
After last year, Pogacar knows of course that you always have to be prepared for the final time trial, even though his lead is now reassuring with 5’45”. “Whether I’m still worried about the time trial? Why then?” he says after some hesitation and with disbelief in his look.
Isn’t a new revolution like Pogacar-Roglic last year possible, but with Vingegaard? “You never know. A bad day is always possible. Losing 6 minutes in a time trial, it has already happened. I always try to do my best.”
