Perfect weekend for the Cascades

BASEBALL. The Cascades Go Sport of Shawinigan remained undefeated this weekend at home. On Saturday, Shawinigan won 11-10 against the Cactus de Victoriaville. On Sunday, Jean-François Lemay’s troop won 15-6 against the Sherbrooke Expos.

On Saturday, the visitors registered for the score from the initial round on the ground of Yan-Éric Tremblay. Michel Dagenais gave the answer in the next half-round, with a simple productive. In the second round, the cactus added a point on an error before seeing the locals replicate again on Xavier Bégin’s single. In the third round, the Cascades score three points. Raphaël Gladu with a double as well as Vincent Bourget with a single produced one each. On their turn to the next bat, they add five. Raphaël Gladu with a two-point homerun, followed by Michaël Laprise, who scored as many with a single. Jean Philippe Martin and Raphaël John Leblanc produced the last two for stunts with timely hits.

The Cactus started a comeback from the end of the fifth inning scoring eight runs in the final three innings, but to no avail. Yan-Éric Tremblay produced three additional points while Karl Gosselin produced two in his turn. The victory on the mound went to Cascades starter Xavier Tremblay while the backhand went to Etienne Blanchette.

LOTS OF SAFE STRIKES AND A STUNNING VICTORY

The Shawinigan Cascades hosted the Sherbrooke Expos at the end of Sunday afternoon. The Mauricie hitters were merciless for the Sherbrooke artillerymen hitting no less than 18 hits against them in a 15-6 victory.

The locals struck early, scoring a point on Vincent Bourget’s double and two more on Michael Laprise’s single. The visitors sign up for the mark at the start of the third round on the solo slap of Ismael Pena-Chénier. Laprise responded in turn with a two-run homerun. In the next round, Francis Désilet added more with a sacrifice ball followed by a productive single from Xavier Bégin. Shawinigan delivers the fatal blow at the end of the fifth inning, scoring six times. Raphaël Gladu and Michel Dagenais started it all off with a solo circuit each. Michael Laprise took the opportunity to add a fifth RBI to his record with a double before being imitated by Julien Bélanger, good for two points this time. Gabriel Thibodeau also produced a run with a single in that push.

At the end of the game, the Expos regained strength, scoring five times. Matthew Adams-Whittaker and Germin Lopez with productive singles, Nelson Jr Ercia with a grounding as well as Bruno Laurin with a two-point single, closed the gap for Sherbrooke. Alexandre Janelle-Gagnon scores his first victory this season with the Cascades. He pitched five innings giving only one run and five hits in addition to making three strikeouts. His opposite, Claudio Ortiz suffered a third setback in 2021.

A long streak on the road

After completing a 7-game stay at home, the Cascades Go Sport will embark on a 7-game streak this week on opposing grounds. Note that during this sequence, the first edition of the 13U (Peewee) minor baseball tournament will take place at Réal-Dufresne Park (July 29 to August 1).

The Cascades (5-3) take the road to St-Jérôme on Tuesday evening to face the Cardinals (2-5) at Parc Melançon.

They will then be in Thetford Mines on Thursday evening and in Drummondville on Friday evening.
