After his soaring at Wimbledon, Matteo Berrettini had bad luck with injuries: Shortly before the start of the Olympic Games, the Italian tennis star had to cancel his participation in Tokyo due to muscular complaints.

After the tennis grandees Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams have already decided against the fight for gold, Italy’s hope for a medal Matteo Berrettini has to give up. After reaching the final at Wimbledon, where he was finally defeated by Novak Djokovic in four sets, the stroke of fate follows. As can be heard from several reports, the injury should come from the grass tournament of the past few weeks. The number 8 in the world had already competed there with a noticeable bandage on the thigh. Berrettini would need at least 15 days for his recovery and a comeback – too many to get fit for Tokyo.
