Olympics 2020: Lianne Tan eliminated from the badminton tournament after her defeat to Gregoria Mariska

The Belgian did not manage to get out of her group to join the round of 16.

Lianne Tan lost her second group match at the Olympic badminton tournament on Wednesday at the Tokyo Games. Following this defeat, the Belgian badiste is eliminated from the tournament.

Lianne Tan, 38th in the world, lost in straight sets (21-11, 21-17) in 42 minutes against the Indonesian Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, 23rd in the world and 14th seed.

Lianne Tan won her first Group M match on Tuesday against Burmese Thuzar Thet Htar, 65th in the world, 2 sets to 0 (21-6, 21-8) in 28 minutes. But only the first of each of the 14 groups qualifies for the knockout stages.

Lianne Tan, 30, was playing her third Games. The Belgian champion was eliminated in the group stage in 2012 in London and four years later in Rio.
