On Tuesday, however, the double with Struff was waiting for the 24-year-old, which the two Germans won.

Struff/Zverev – Chardy/Monfils 6:4, 7:5

A strong return from Chardy prevents the Germans from winning the match. And then there is actually another break ball for the French. Struff fends off this with an ace. It goes back and forth now. The next match point is not long in coming. Monfils fails and slams a forehand into the net. With this, Zverev and Struff win the match and are in the quarter-finals of the Olympic double tournament.

Struff/Zverev – Chardy/Monfils 6:4, 6:5

Now, of all times, Struff’s first serve wobbles a bit. Zverev saves some rallies on the net, but his partner is making a few mistakes too many at the moment. So the French can come back. There are two breakballs for Chardy / Monfils. But both can fend off the Germans, especially thanks to a strong Zverev on the network. It’s about debut. The German duo gets their first match ball with a ball.

Struff/Zverev – Chardy/Monfils 6:4, 6:5

The returns from the Germans are also very well placed now. Therefore, the two breakballs for Zverev / Struff are a logical consequence. A backhand from Zverev then lands perfectly on the baseline. This is possibly the decisive break! Struff serves to win the match.

Struff/Zverev – Chardy/Monfils 6:4, 5:5

Zverev thus strikes against the loss of a set. But the German served perfectly and Struff completed the points on the network. Since the two do not show any nakedness. So the sentence goes into overtime. The pressure on the French is likely to be a bit bigger.

Struff/Zverev – Chardy/Monfils 6:4, 4:5

Struff continues the good performance of the German duo with great service. When Monfils serve, Zverev and Struff are at least approaching again. It even goes over 30:30, but then Monfils counters with an ace. The ball to make it 5: 4 has to be repeated because after a check a ball was still on the line. However, after a strong second serve, Struff puts the return out of bounds. The French duo are in the front again.

Struff/Zverev – Chardy/Monfils 6:4, 3:4

Zverev also makes short work of its own serve. Once again, the Germans win their service to zero. Chardy also hits some aces and serves very strong and well placed. Zverev and Struff therefore have to hope for mistakes by their opponents, for better or worse.

Struff/Zverev – Chardy/Monfils 6:4, 2:3

Struff and Monfils then serve, neither showing any nakedness. An early break like in the first sentence is still missing. But you can also tell that both doubles have now fully arrived in the game.

Struff/Zverev – Chardy/Monfils 6:4, 1:2

The second movement starts just like the first. First, both doubles win their first service games. Then the Germans pick up again, Chardy / Monfils are quickly 0:40 behind with their own service. But the French fight back, Chardy serves better again. This is how they save themselves to the interim 2: 1 leadership.

Struff/Zverev – Chardy/Monfils 6:4

Now Chardy is serving better again. Struff, however, holds back with strong returns. In the end, however, the French can defend their game. So it goes on with surcharge Struff.

Struff/Zverev – Chardy/Monfils 5:3

Monfils is now serving strong again and shortening it again. The French will not let their opponents go away with it. It stays tight. But Zverev doesn’t let anything burn. He serves very well, and there is also praise from double partner Struff. The Germans increase to 5: 3.

Struff/Zverev – Chardy/Monfils 4:2

Chardy and Monfils continue to have a little more problems with their own serve. But after a baseline error by Struff, the French can shorten to 2: 3. Struff continues to serve well, but the Germans make a little more mistakes in the last few minutes. That’s why the French come up to debut. With a skilful serve and volley, Struff then wins the game for the Germans.

Struff/Zverev – Chardy/Monfils 3:1

And there is the first break for the Germans! Monfils and Chardy are visibly annoyed about the missed service game. A good start for Zverev / Struff. Zverev then served strong as usual. Again, the German duo wins their service to 3: 1.

Struff/Zverev – Chardy/Monfils 1:1
