No golden slam! Djokovic out in the Olympic semifinals – Olympia

Novak Djokovic failed at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, losing the semifinals against the German Alexander Zverev in three sets.

Zverev prevailed in 2:03 hours with 1: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 1 against the world number one and is in the final for the gold medal against the Russian Karen Khachanov. Djokovic only has the bronze match against the Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta.

With this, the Serb has gambled away the chance of the historically first Golden Slam in men’s tennis, but missed Olympic gold after the successes at the Australian Open, the French Open and at Wimbledon.

Djokovic from the role

Djokovic had played big in a high-class game in the first set, Djokovic broke twice and made the first round 6-1. A result that was clearer than the course of the game.

In the second set, the German struck back, got three breaks in a row and won the second set 6: 3. The visibly more and more nervous world number one had nothing to counter this. Zverev quickly moved away to 4: 1 in the decision-making process before the Serb could write in the final sentence, but did not return to the game. Zverev used his second match point to make it 6-1 in the third set.
