NFL: Rams running back Cam Akers suffered Achilles tendon tear

Los Angeles Rams training camp hasn’t even started yet, with the team learning they’ll be without running back Cam Akers in the 2021 season.

Rams officials confirmed the news on Tuesday, a week before the veterans arrived at the team’s camp.

Akers, who was supposed to be the Rams’ starting backer, suffered a torn Achilles tendon while exercising before camp kick off.

The 22-year-old was selected in the second round in the 2020 draft. In his rookie season, he totaled 625 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He added 123 receiving yards and a major.

The injury Akers sustained in all likelihood means Darrell Henderson Jr. will see his responsibilities increase. The latter rushed for 624 yards last year, in addition to registering five touchdowns.
