NBA 2K22 cover athlete has been officially revealed. After weeks of anticipation, this announcement is likely a major relief for 2K players, as they will finally learn which star has been cast and what each cover looks like. To help you get started with everything you need to know, we’ve brought you all the published information on the NBA 2K22 cover stars below.
Luka Doncic is the cover star of NBA 2K22
2K Sports has let it be known that one of the game’s budding stars, Mavs young guard Luka Doncic will grace the cover of the NBA 2K22 Standard Edition, as well as the cross-gen bundle.
This shouldn’t surprise connoisseurs so much, as the Slovenian superstar has been in tears during his first three seasons in the NBA. He’s won two All-Star appearances, two All-NBA first-team appearances, and two playoff appearances (and a ton of league MVP nods) during that time. Plus, he’s just finished a playoff game in which he averaged over 35 points, ten assists and eight rebounds per game.
Doncic commented on the massive achievement, “Giving global coverage of NBA 2K22 is special to me. I am proud to represent my country in a special cover that honors the colors of my Slovenian flag. Basketball has given me so much, and I am thrilled to give back and work with 2K Foundations this year to help the lives of young children around the world ”.
NBA 2K22 75th Anniversary Edition cover star is Candace Parker
On another note, 2K also announced that the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Edition of the popular video game will feature the WNBA’s double MVP, Candace Parker.
Parker has been one of the brilliant personalities both on and off the field for the WNBA. Not only has she won two league MVPs, but she has also won 6 All-Star appearances, 6 All-WNBA 1st Team appearances and won a WNBA Championship and a WNBA Finals MVP. She is also a popular host and analyst for NBA games on TNT and NBA TV and is one of the most recognizable faces in the sport.
The news marks the first time a female athlete has appeared on the cover of the game in franchise history. Candice Parker also spoke about this incredible honor, saying the following:
“NBA 2K coverage is such an essential platform for inspiring young football players, and I wanted future WNBA stars to know that they can be cover athletes too. Representation counts, so it is a privileged moment of progress for the sport and the series. Being a part of this historic coverage is a testament to the growth and increasing popularity of women’s football, and I am proud to be the first female cover athlete to be the face of NBA 2K ”.
It looks like the 75th Anniversary Edition of NBA 2K22 will also help shed light on the careers of big names in the NBA like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Durant. Focus on how the three have helped shape the game into what it is today.
You may also recognize the pastel artwork featured in the Anniversary Edition, as it is the work of famous artist Charly Palmer, known for his most recent “America Must Change” cover for Time Magazine.
All in all, a few exciting reveals, without a doubt, with more likely news as NBA 2K22’s epic September 10 release date approaches.
