More than 70 educational centers in the Solidarity Olympics

Solidarity Workshop Foundation has organized the first Solidarity Olympics, with the aim of creating a network of ceducational and sports centers that share the values ​​of gender equality, human rights, care for the environment, fair trade and responsible consumption. More than 70 centers from all over Spain have joined this initiative to make their students aware that, thanks to the approach to other realities and the small changes in the habits of the day to day, it is possible to contribute to the construction of a world more just Y sustainable.

Through educational proposals, adapted to different ages, and linked to the main international days of the last quarter of the school year, the centers have been offered to work on different values ​​with the aim of achieving the 5 olympic rings. Among the more than 70 registered centers, a total of 50 rings have been achieved. All those who have reached at least one obtain the diploma that accredits them as an Olympic Training Center, although only three of them climb to the top of the podium. These have been the La Asuncin de Gijn School, Asturias; the CEIP Nuestra Seora de Guadalupe Mrida, Badajoz and the CEIP Ciudad de l @ s ni @ s Villamayor, Salamanca

In addition, several of the centers that have downloaded the activities have indicated that they will include them in the school calendar of the new course. Some educational proposals that are still available on the Solidarity Workshop website, and that according to Juan Luna, Physical Education teacher at La Asuncin de Gijn School, have been a valuable tool: “They have helped us to continue developing a critical view of reality through the play, which is the fundamental tool for educate at these ages. With the proposal of the Solidarity Olympics we have motivated the boys and girls who, through this particular sporting event, have continued to discover and transmit values ​​”.

This initiative has been joined by elite athletes, such as the Olympic judo champion, Isabel Fernandez or the captain of the Spanish field hockey team, Mara Lpez Garca, who has become the standard bearer of these Solidarity Olympics, before leaving for the Tokyo Games. Women like her show that “there are no sports for boys or girls, sport is the same for everyone, and no one can tell you what you are capable of and what you are not. If you put passion into it, in the end the limits are only in your mind. “

Through these games, Taller de Solidaridad continues working, as it has done since 2001, to promote a model of coexistence that includes and benefits all people equally, that respects human rights and that fosters the construction of a just and equal society.
