Dit certainly won’t be because Miguel Angel Jimenez did not try, because 65 strokes who signed the ‘Pisha’ in the final round of Senior Open Championship meant the best lap of the day of any player present in Sunningdale Golf Club. But the man from Malaga was on the verge of completing the comeback, as Stephen Dodd achieved a birdie in the 18th that prevented the tiebreaker.

Miguel, who knows what it was like to win this tournament because in 2018 he was crowned no less than in St. Andrews – he was awarded his second ‘Major’ of the senior circuit-, on this occasion he waited next to the green of the 18th for the outcome of Dopp’s game. The Welshman, meanwhile, debuts his record of ‘greats’ among veterans at 55 years old and incidentally earned the right to be in the next edition of The Open.

Once Dopp, winner of three European Tour tournaments, finished, his gaze met with Jiménez who was off the green and both colleagues walked to each other to merge in a hug, in what was a nice gesture of sportsmanship. The ‘Pisha’ not only fought with everything in English lands, but was an elegant runner-up.
