On your marks, get set, go! Formula 1 is testing a new format. For the first time there is no usual qualifying on Saturday, but a mini race over 17 laps. An old friend is lying in front.

WM-frontrunner Max Verstappen has won the first sprint of Formula 1 and secured pole position for the British Grand Prix. The Dutch Red Bull driver relegated Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton to second place on Saturday at Silverstone after a great start. For Verstappen, who dominated the mini race over 17 laps, it was the fourth pole in a row and the eighth of his career.

Even before the Grand Prix in England on Sunday (4:00 p.m. CEST in the FAZ live ticker on Formula 1 and on Sky), the 23-year-old scored the first three points of the weekend in the test format over 100 kilometers with free tire choice.

Hamilton got two more points, his team mate Valtteri Bottas dusted off in third place for the improved Mercedes team. Sebastian Vettel finished eighth in the Aston Martin, while Haas newcomer Mick Schumacher was 18th ahead of his stable rival Nikita Masepin.
