Madrid will host the 1st Inclusive Games with Olympic and Paralympic athletes on October 7 | Leader in Social Information

This was announced on Tuesday by the Sanitas Foundation, the Higher Sports Council (CSD), the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) and the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE). Therefore, the competition will take place just over a month after the flame of the Paralympic Games, which will conclude on September 5, goes out.

“The Inclusive Games will finally have the celebration they deserve after being postponed last year due to Covid-19. At Fundación Sanitas we acquired the commitment, more than 10 years ago, to make the inclusion of people with disability through sports. Since then, we have held multiple competitions through the Inclusive Sports Week or the Inclusive Sports at School days. But the Games are the final culmination of our intense awareness-raising work “, indicated Yolanda Erburu, general director of the Sanitas Foundation.

The Sanitas Foundation Chair for Inclusive Sports Studies is responsible for coordinating, together with the various national sports and disability federations, the regulations that will be applied in the different competitions. In addition, an adaptation of the facilities that require it will be carried out in order to offer maximum accessibility and safety to all participating athletes.

The CAR of Madrid will bring together Spanish athletes of the highest level with or without disabilities in nine disciplines. Thus, the triathlon will have the format of a

Duathlon by teams formed by a triathlete with a disability and another without a disability. In badminton, an inclusive mixed doubles match will be played. The judo and taekwondo competition will be for inclusive teams (athletes with or without disabilities).

Swimming will feature a 50% mixed team competition made up of eight athletes (four with disabilities and four without disabilities). In athletics, athletes will have four different inclusive events: shot put, long jump, 1,500 meters, 4×100 meter relays and the 100 meter sprint; all teams will have athletes with and without disabilities.

There will be wheelchair basketball (each team will consist of two players with disabilities in a wheelchair, and a third without disabilities who will also compete on the wheelchair), rugby (with a rugby seven exhibition) and table tennis (competition for inclusive mixed doubles teams).
